Prefabricated house in Górliz, Basque Country

Modular housing in the Basque Country, near Bilbao, designed to blend in with its surroundings.

A new project is underway in Górliz, a town in the Basque Country very close to Bilbao. A natural environment with a very distinctive aesthetic.

The owners are a couple currently living in China who wanted to build an ideal retreat for returning to live in the north of Spain, close to the Vizcaya coast.

A compact prefabricated house, distinguished by its large windows and dark materiality. The black porcelain stoneware tiles blend into the aesthetic of the surroundings and the rest of the houses in the residential area.

A total of 220 m² divided between the ground and ground floors, plus a 75 m² basement. Three floors linked by a sculptural staircase with a cantilevered step and triple height. A Japanese staircase whose back wall is covered in veined ceramic cladding, giving an impression of continuity between the three levels, visually linking the whole house.

The exterior and interior of the house are dominated by an oriental style due to the family's influences, reflected in the dark colours and natural textures. On the ground floor is the day area, a diaphanous space because the aim is to create a functional space for the family to share moments together. The living room is fully glazed, with flush windows that offer uninterrupted views of the outdoor space and pool. At the heart of this space is the sculptural Japanese staircase with its cantilevered steps. This staircase links the three levels of the house (basement, ground floor and first floor), visually and functionally connecting the whole house. The kitchen is finished in a black tone, which is combined with a black worktop with gold veining.

AOn the first floor is the sleeping area, with the master bedroom and two bedrooms for the younger members of the family. The master bedroom has a fully fitted dressing room in black smoked glass.

The two children's bedrooms are linked by a large central bathroom and each has individual access to the terrace.

In the rest of the house, you can see how the design elements stand out, such as the tiling, floor-to-ceiling doors and ceramic tiles that reflect a pure contrast with the predominant materiality.

All the rooms in the house are strategically placed so that they enjoy the best views of the grounds.
